Want to throw Cuomo out? The grassroots are doing a moneybomb!

http://rob4ny.comIts really cool watching and participating in all the creativity we, the grassroots, have unleashed in opposition to the #NYSAFE act.  While I’ve been busy with work (notice the lack of posts here on the site? Thankfully I have people to help me out on the FaceBook page), a very cool #MoneyBomb for Rob Astorino was started!

I have some really bad news — really bad for Andrew Cuomo!

Which means GREAT news for you and me.

A group of grassroots folks pulled together a Social Media Blitz that is now spreading like wildfire. It was launched on Facebook four days ago and has already raised more than $41,500.00 in PLEDGES!

What is a MoneyBomb?: A MoneyBomb is an INTENSE GRASSROOTS online fundraising effort done over short periods of time. This one is going to support Pro 2nd Amendment Gubernatorial Candidate Rob Astorino who has been really mauling Cuomo lately. (Here’s a link to one such video: http://vimeo.com/93303012 )

How does it Work?: It’s Simple & Easy 1-2-3:

(1) [If you are not on Facebook just skip to step 2!] Click “GOING” on the Facebook event Page https://www.facebook.com/events/554994697955537/ & Direct Message and / or Share it with ALL your Facebook Friends ( << That “Direct Message / Share” is REALLY Important because it helps multiply our impact! – see below)

graph

(2) Then head on over to (http://ROB4NY.com) and see how much has already been PLEDGED in just a little over three days. All you need to do is click on the orange PLEDGE button. Fill in the fields accurately and pick the amount that is right for you. Do you have to pay it now? Nope – you don’t CONTRIBUTE until D-Day or June 6, 2014).

(3) Finally – 34 days from now is D-Day and the day this MoneyBomb comes due. Go to http://RobAstorino.com and click on the DONATE button and contribute the total amount of any Pledges you made via this MoneyBomb.

Cool, huh?  If you like Astorino (I do, he’s been vocally opposing the so called SAFE act, even though RINO GOP leaders like Skelos wish he’d keep his mouth shut), then head on over to the site and make a pledge!

Next its important to spread the word, go to the facebook event, click ‘Join’:

Screenshot from 2014-05-06 23:29:34

Then, click ‘Invite’, and ‘Choose Friends’ from the drop-down menu.

Screenshot from 2014-05-06 23:34:12

Next choose as many friends as might support your second amendment rights (or stand up against Common Core, or don’t like corruption, etc — there’s lots of areas where Cuomo is bad and Astorino is great).

Screenshot from 2014-05-05 23:07:55

Click, send.  That’s it, you’ve done your part to spread the word.  If your friends do likewise then attendance will grow exponentially, and we’ll astound the naysayers and be well on our way to getting a governor who will stand up for our rights instead of treading them under foot.

More information on our FOIL request

A dedicated supporter crunched through the 558 pages of resolutions we got in response to our FOIL request to the governor’s office. Overall, the request produced documentation identifying 200 municipal resolutions in opposition to the SAFE Act, most of the 52 county resolutions in opposition, and a handful of resolutions in support. Of the municipal resolutions in opposition, there were 48 (spread across 28 counties) which were not already identified on the http://NYSafeResolutions.com/ webpage. At the time of receipt of the FOIL request, we were already aware of 253 resolutions in opposition to the SAFE Act, and many of those 253 were not included in the FOIL request. The combination of the 253 previously known resolutions with the 48 new resolutions in the FOIL request, now result in an overall total of 301 municipal resolutions in opposition to date. The many dozens of missing resolutions from the FOIL request could have been missing for any of several reasons, including: some municipalities that did not mail their resolutions to the Executive Chamber; mail mis-filings by Executive Chamber staff; recently passed resolutions which have not yet been mailed, or not yet processed by the Executive Chamber staff at the time the FOIL request was compiled and provided. But, regardless of these reasons, what we have on the http://NYSafeResolutions.com/ webpage is the most complete, accurate, up-to-date record of documented resolutions in opposition to the NYS SAFE Act. With the help of our many supporters, we will continue to provide these important information updates.

Please continue to visit your town and village boards, and use Privilege of the Floor to express your desire that they pass resolutions in support of Civil Rights and 2A, and also, to review the municipal list, and let us know if we are missing any!

Additionally if you are part of any civic organization, particularly one impacted by the law, please consider pursuing passage of a resolution or writing a letter of opposition. Many police, veteran, medical, and hunting organizations have already done this.

Governor Cuomo’s response to our FOIL request

FOIL SAFE act resolutions from Gov Cuomo by Evan Hempel

Visualization of County resolutions

NYS Against S.A.F.E. County Demographics

From a friend of the site:

Folks – The attachment is for your use.  There needs to be more focus that outside of the NYC area, over 90% of NYS is opposed to the SAFE Act.  Over 90% of the lands of NY are hostage to the NYC political interest group.  Please try to use facts like these in the local papers and web sites.

NYS Against S.A.F.E. County Demographics by Evan Hempel

Starting a resolution in your County

First realize the power of one person taking action. Take a look at Mattie Zarpentine’s experience! (see below)

Contact your legislators (usually emails and phone numbers are on the County website). Let them know you’ve been watching nearby counties pass resolutions and you want them to pass one too. Let them know that the majority of NY Counties oppose the act. Give them copies of resolutions you like (this way you steer at least the initial draft).

If they’re still not sure, then let them know that their action on this issue will determine if you back a primary against them next election cycle.

Mattie Zarpentine’s experience starting the process of getting the act repealed in Orleans County

First, let me say that what gave me the push was listening to Lisa Donovan speak at the Feb. 8th “blizzard” rally in Albany. She spoke of the importance of women speaking up. It really struck home with me and I immediately got to work.

I wrote my county legislators and town board members on Sunday, the 10th. I heard back on Monday, the 11th, from the County chairman that I was the first to make the request and that he had expected more and sooner! I was shocked! Do not assume that someone else is doing the asking! They were more than willing to work on this and put a resolution on their Wednesday, the 13th, board agenda as an add-on. I made sure I was there to speak publicly on the issue. The resolution was read, in it’s entirety, and passed unanimously! In less than 4 days!

The gun banners want the public to believe that they are doing what women want: protecting innocent children. They make it sound like they are just taking away the “scary guns” to keep us vulnerable ones safe. Women must speak up and show that we are tax paying, hard working citizens. We are moms, wives, daughters, sisters and…gun owners! We do not appreciate our rights being trampled upon. We are not criminals!

In my appeal to the county and my town, I shared much of that. I also shared how, like the rest of the country, I was horrified at the tragedy of Sandy Hook, but the NY SAFE Act did nothing to prevent a tragedy like that from happening again. They used a tragedy solely to push their agenda.

I shared that I come from a long line of Patriots fighting in many of America’s wars dating back to the American Revolution. Their bravery and sacrifice are the reason why I fight for the Constitution today.

“Band-aid legislation” will not solve the problem of gun violence and crime. This issue is multi-faceted and needs to be addressed from many angles.

I think it helps to let the county/town you are appealing to know that they are not alone. Share with them others that have already passed legislation. If possible, share actual documentation. My county of Orleans has a beautifully written resolution that would be good to share.

Thanks,
Mattie
